Our Legacy

GFP Somdal, LLC is the combination of two established Louisiana architecture and interior design practices: Gros Flores Positerry (GFP), in continuous operation since 1949, and Somdal Associates of Shreveport, founded in 1908 by Edward F. Neild—architect of the Harry S. Truman Presidential Library and the Caddo Parish Courthouse.

Formed in 2026 as a true partnership—not one firm absorbing another—GFP Somdal unites a team of over 35 across three offices in Thibodaux, Baton Rouge, and Shreveport, serving clients throughout Louisiana and the Gulf South. Our combined experience and talents: greater depth and reach behind the same local teams, with the resources of the region’s deepest design bench behind them.

The Origins of Somdal

Edward F. Neild, Sr. Architect—which would later develop into GFP Somdal—is founded in Shreveport, LA.

Growing a Team

Dewey A. Somdal joins Neild to become Neil-Somdal Associates.

The Origins of GFP

Architect Fernand Picou founds the original firm shortly after his graduation from Princeton University. Picou's focus was designing innovative educational facilities in Lafourche, Terrebonne, Assumption, and St. Mary Parishes,

1963
Welcoming Richard

After graduating from LSU, Architect Richard Weimer joins Picou's firm, and  eventually becomes its owner. Though he transitioned ownership in 2010, Richard still remains active in applying his educational experience to the new owners of the firm.

Looking Ahead

Weimer Gros Flores is established when Architect Kevin Gros and Interior Designer Amy Flores teams up with Richard to carry the firm's history into the future.

2020
Welcoming Andy

Weimer Gros Flores welcomes Architect Lloyd "Andy" Positerry II as a Partner to help carry its vision forward. Andy is a resident of Houma and an LSU School of Architecture alumni with over 25 years of experience in the field.

2022
Houston to Houma

Architect Houston Lirette and his firm joins the GFP family, establishing the GFP Houma office and continuing their 40-year history of serving the Bayou Region.

2023
Regionally Expanding

GFP acquires Post Architects, combining the long rich history of both firms and providing its multi-sector focus to the Louisiana's capitol city, Baton Rouge.

2026
The Best of Both

GFP and Somdal merge to become GFP Somdal. This newly united team of architects, designers, and management brings GFP's 70+ years and Somdal's 100+ years of experience and talent, with a strong multi-sector portfolio that spans the United States' Gulf South region.
